Robotics Workshop for Preschoolers

ABOUT

Programme

Kids get to programme a floorbot, the Bee-Bot, to complete treasure hunting quests and to create their own giant painting with shapes. This 1.5 hour workshop is designed to help kids learn computational thinking concepts and develop problem-solving skills while sparking their interest in the exciting world of programming.

Objectives

  1. Navigational skills: Kids learn to navigate the Bee-Bot using lines of instructions. Similarly, they pick up early concepts of coordinates and directional skills as they learn to guide the Bee-Bot from the starting point to the end destination through commands (Up, Down, Left, Right).
  2. Sequencing & logical thinking: Controlling the Bee-Bot using directional instructions trains kids in sequencing and logical thinking – and these same skill sets are very applicable to a programmer’s way of thinking once they are old enough to begin coding on platforms like Scratch.
  3. Breaking down a problem into smaller parts: Kids are given a treasure hunting quest where they have to navigate the Beebot from the starting point to complete a task. What they learn during this process, is to analyze and segment the huge task into smaller mini-tasks which they find easier to grasp and complete. This same skill set is required of programmers when they are faced with a problem statement, and being able to break down a problem into smaller parts will come in useful in eventually solving it
