Dr Kumaran Rasappan, 28, became the first person to receive the Abdeali Tayebali Award for Courage. It was presented by Mr S R Nathan at the Yio Chu Kang Grassroots Club, to honour Dr Kumaran for being the first Singapore-born Indian to scale Mount Everest. Dr Kumaran who undertook the expedition to raise funds for the Tan Tock Seng Community Charity Fund was praised for his courage and his charitable contribution to society. The ceremony was jointly organized by SINDA, Singapore Indian Association and Narpani Pearavai, to motivate youths to dream big.
