The ‘Dr.Balaji Sadasivan Scholarship Award’ is a scholarship scheme in honour of Dr.Balaji Sadasivan, the past President of SINDA. It will be awarded to deserving Social Work Undergraduates and Postgraduates enabling them to pursue social work as a professional discipline of study. This scholarship award aims to assist undergraduate students with course fees to pursue Social Work and Counselling program at the following Universities listed below.



Value of Award

This award will support to up to 3 students, with the study award of $5000 for each student.


Bond periods will vary according to a period of study.

Before Graduation, during course of study After Graduation
To complete 20 days of internships with SINDA* (During semester holidays)

(10 days during Semester 1 holidays and 10 days during Semester 2 holidays)

1 year bond with SINDA * (Mandatory service period)
*SINDA reserves all rights to transfer a student to another organization, in the event should SINDA have no vacancy for that period in time.


  • The scholarship is only tenable for the specific period of study. Should the student decide to withdraw from the scholarship or defer, the scholarship will be voided and the student will be required to re-pay the quantum of Scholarship.
  • Applications will take about 3 – 4 weeks to be processed after the closing date.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the interview dates with SINDA.
  • Only successful candidates will be informed of the outcome by SINDA.
  • All scholarships are subject to approval.



In order to be eligible for the scholarship award, applicants:

  • Must be Singapore Citizens
  • Must be either Indian, or have one parent belonging to an Indian sub-ethnic group
  • Must currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or Honours year of study, with acceptable academic results.  *1st year students will be considered based on previous education qualifications and grades
  • Must have a strong passion to continue a career in the community and social service sector
  • Must not hold any other scholarships or study awards
  • Must be enrolled in one of the following courses:

Singapore Institute of Management University (UniSIM) Bachelor Of Social Work

James Cook University Master of Guidance And Counselling
Nanyang Technological University (NIE/NTU) Master of Arts (Counselling and Guidance)

Note: Other courses recognized by the Singapore Association of Social Workers and Singapore Association of Counselling will also be considered.
