SINDA Revises Fund Contribution Rates

Press Release
Dated: 30 August 2014

1. On 30 August 2014, SINDA announced revisions to the SINDA Fund Contribution that working Singaporean Indians contribute towards. This SINDA Fund Contribution sees the Indian community make monthly donations that go towards the betterment of the community as a whole. These funds are channelled towards educational programmes from preschool to tertiary levels, engagement and motivation of youth, family programmes and financial assistance for students and families in need.

2. The current contribution model was last revised in 1996 to include four tiers, with individuals contributing $1 – $7, depending on income level. The new contribution model has increased tiers and contribution rates that would see higher income earners contributing more to the community. These revisions are partly to counter the rising costs of current programmes and services and also to fund new initiatives geared to improve the community. The move comes following extensive focus group discussions and town hall meetings, where SINDA consulted members of the community for their views.

Current Contribution Rates:

Income Range Contribution
Up to $600 $1
$601 – $1,500 $3
$1,501 – $2,500 $5
$2,501 and above $7

Revised Contribution Rates (from January 2015 onwards):

Income Range Contribution
Up to $1000  $1
$1,001 – $1,500  $3
$1,501 – $2,500  $5
$2,501 – $4,500 $7
$4,501 – $7,500  $9
$7,501 – $10,000  $12
$10,001 – $15,000  $18
$15,001 and above  $30

3. Increased funds from this revision will allow SINDA to continue its work by extending its reach into the community, implementing new strategies and programmes to address societal changes, and expanding existing quality programmes.

4. The revision, which will take effect from January 2015, was announced by President of SINDA, Ms Indranee Rajah, at the SINDA Community Forum on 30 August 2014.
