Beyond STEP

Cyber Tuition
-- Pilot Programme conducted by the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) for Primary 5 and Secondary 2 students.

Objectives:

  1. Expose the students to the cyber learning environment;
  2. Arouse interest and better motivate the students in their studies;
  3. Facilitate communication and interaction between students and tutors;
  4. Provide opportunities for the students to gain access to a variety of learning resources/information in the web.

- Currently all 30 places offered to SINDA have been taken up by our STEP students.


WISH

Target:

Aims at Indian mothers or housewives with little or no knowledge in English


Objective:

  1. To teach Indian women who do not have any basic knowledge in written and spoken English.
  2. To give them more confidence when conversing with their children's school teachers.
  3. To help them converse in English while dealing with people in matters concerning their household day to day matters.
  4. To make phone calls, complete forms, read and understand notes from schools, read road signs, names of building.


Centres conducting WISH Programme:

  1. Alexandra Hill Primary School : Mondays, 7.30pm - 8.30pm
  2. Henderson Secondary School : Mondays, 7.30pm - 8.30pm
  3. Sengkang Secondary School : Wednesdays, 7.30pm - 8.30pm
  4. Upper Serangoon Secondary School : Wednesdays, 7.30pm - 8.30pm


Reading Programme

-   An extension of the SINDA reading programme designed for children between the ages of 4 - 8 years.
-   Volunteers are trained by SINDA to conduct the programme once a week for 1 to 2 hours.
-   Reading sessions are conducted for children in-groups of 3 - 7.
-   STEP Centres currently conducting reading classes are:
  1. Jing Shan Primary School: Fridays, 7pm - 8pm
  2. Swiss Cottage: Fridays, 7pm - 8pm
  3. Seng Kang: Wednesdays, 7pm - 8pm
  4. Loyang: Mondays, 7pm - 8pm
  5. Xishan: Fridays, 7pm - 8pm
  6. Telok Kurau: Fridays, 7pm - 8pm
  7. Alexandra Hill: Fridays, 7pm - 8pm

All reading centres have closed for the June Holidays and will resume in July.


Career Guidance

On the day of the release of the 'N', 'O' & 'A' Level results, we have professional who will advice students on their career options through phone or in person at SINDA.
