Themes for 2013:

Social Catalysts Today, Leaders Tomorrow

The thrust of this year’s theme and sub themes are tailored to ensure that the topics discussed will be of relevance to the participants, to the community and their future. In general, the theme aims to address the empowerment of Indian youth in contributing to their community by spearheading social change.

The seminar aims to explore three key sub-themes:

Sub-Theme 1: Through the lens of the Indian Community

The process of social change begins with an awareness of the social issues that are present. This would require an analysis of present social structures and stakeholders together with a better understanding of the challenges faced through the implementation of current solutions. Through the lens of the Indian community enables youth leaders to understand the issues the community faces. It draws on the values of awareness which are crucial to a servant leader as it contributes to his understanding and perception about issues affecting the community. This also plays a role in helping youth leaders discover their proximity to the issues and their strategic position in responding to them.

Sub-Theme 2: Serve to Lead

The second aspect of the seminar will proceed from the premise of the first where an awareness of the social issues will further enhance the learning journey of the youth as they get involved in the experiential component of the seminar. Awareness and a better understanding of social issues become futile until each youth takes up the mantle of responding effectively to them. ‘Serve to Lead’ aims to provide youth leaders the opportunity to contextualize issues and challenges of the Indian community.

Sub-Theme 3: Social Catalysts

Considering the future which rests on the solutions implemented at present, it also becomes critical to reflect and realize the response of the community and the approach it is to take so as to ensure that the community progresses forward and responds to impending challenges. This theme intends to encourage youth leaders to ponder on possible solutions to respond effectively to social issues. As social catalysts in the making, youth will also gain the opportunity to conceptualize potential social projects as a response to current issues.
