Information Technology Lifestyle
IT Lifestyle is a home based volunteer-driven programme to impart basic computer skills to school children from low income families with a PC at home.
Objective
- To impart PC skills, such as Basic computer and Internet usage, E-communications and Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- To cultivate an interest and make IT a way of life
Programme Description
- Volunteers visit the homes of students once a week for 1 hour over a period of 3 months.
- 12 sessions are conducted to teach the students IT skills and to inculcate interest through fun and interesting activities.
- Students will be taught Microsoft office and basic internet skills
Target Group
- Children who are between 6 to 12 years old.
Criteria
- Students must be from low-income families with an income of $2000 and below.
- Household must have a PC with Internet connection
Qualified Volunteers
- Training sessions are conducted to equip our volunteers with the necessary skills set before they are deployed
- Volunteers are mainly IT professionals
Provision of resource materials
- Students will be provided with a IT workbook to facilitate learning
Evaluation to assess participants’ performance
- Diagnostic assessment is done before and after the sessions so that the students’ prior and current knowledge on IT skill is identified
- Formative assessment is an ongoing basis to track the students’ progress towards achievement targets. The student receives the feedback immediately. The IT workbook is used as a tool for formative assessment
