‘Build Your Own Virtual Reality’ Workshop

Programme


The world is rapidly moving towards a new age of computing, where technology is developing to provide people with greater immersive digital experience. Virtual Reality (VR) is software that places users in an artificial digital environment, which mimics real-life situation as close as possible.

 

As part of one of their six area of focus on supporting education and literacy for children, Rotary Club of Singapore East Community Service committee has decided to create the “Build Your Own Virtual Reality” workshop, along with Kodecoon. The workshop aims to provide a learning platform for children, from a disadvantaged background, to learn more about coding application in VR/AR world.

 

Through this workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand how Virtual Reality works
  • Learn about the key features and applications of VR
  • Compare the similarities and differences between Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
  • Experience VR with various themes such as underwater, desert, space, prehistoric and cities
  • Build their own Virtual Reality world
  • Brainstorm on a topic/theme of the world to create, e.g. Jurassic Park Exhibition
  • Create contents/objects to be included in the virtual world
  • Work with 3D models to design the landscape
  • Create interactions between models in the Virtual Reality World
  • Improve the interactivity between models with simple, drag-and-drop codes within CoBlocks, e.g.
  • To make models move, speak or do specific actions
  • Include additional features such as sound effects to create an immersive experience
