The ‘Dr.Balaji Sadasivan Scholarship Award’ is a scholarship scheme in honour of Dr.Balaji Sadasivan, the past President of SINDA. It will be awarded to deserving Social Work Undergraduates and Postgraduates enabling them to pursue social work as a professional discipline of study. This scholarship award aims to assist undergraduate students with course fees to pursue Social Work and Counselling program at the following Universities listed below.




Value of Award

This award will support students with the study award of up to $5000 for each student.



Bond periods will vary according to a period of study.

Before Graduation, during the course of study After Graduation
To complete 20 days of internships with SINDA* (During semester holidays)
(10 days during Semester 1 holidays and 10 days during Semester 2 holidays)
1 year bond with SINDA* (Mandatory service period)

*SINDA reserves all rights to transfer a student to another organization, in the event should SINDA have no vacancy for that period in time.



  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the interview date and only successful candidates will be informed of the outcome by SINDA.
  • The committee’s decision is final. SINDA does not enter into correspondence with regard to the reasons for non-selection of applicants.
  • You may only start your course, after receiving the scholarship offer and signing the SINDA student deed.
  • Candidates are required to volunteer their time with SINDA or Singapore Indian Education Trust (SIET) upon completion and/or during the course.


Processing Time

  • You are required to apply for the scholarship 2 months before the course commencement.
  • Processing time takes approximately 3– 4 weeks
  • Download SINDA scholarship application form and send the completed form together with necessary documents indicated in the form to the address below



In order to be eligible for the scholarship award, applicants must:

  • Be a Singapore Citizen.
  • Be either Indian or have one parent belonging to an Indian sub-ethnic group.
  • Be in the 2nd, 3rd or Honours year of study, with good academic results.
    (*1st-year students will be considered based on previous education qualifications and grades)
  • Have a strong passion to continue a career in the community and social service sector.
  • Have no other scholarships awarded.
