SINDA’s Deputy CEO to be Acting CEO

25 May 2018 – The Singapore Indian Development Association, or SINDA, announced today that SINDA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kumaran Barathan will be leaving SINDA to join the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) as CEO, with effect from 1 July 2018.
This will not be a new position to Mr Barathan, who was CEO of SICCI from July 2013 to June 2014.
Mr Barathan has been CEO of SINDA since July 2014. He began his illustrious career at the Economic Development Board (EDB) where he headed the Administration Department for 12 years. He then joined the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) as Director of Corporate Services, where he oversaw career development, training, and succession planning for the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences.
On behalf of SINDA’s Board of Trustees, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of SINDA Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed their appreciation of Mr Barathan’s service. Said Mr Tharman: “Barathan has led the organisation very well as CEO and personified the ethos of community service that SINDA represents. We are deeply grateful for his contributions.”
SINDA’s President, Minister Indranee Rajah said: “Barathan has contributed significantly to SINDA during his tenure as CEO. He introduced many new programmes and initiatives and has done much to strengthen SINDA’s partnership with the Indian community. Today, SINDA is a much stronger organisation due to his efforts. We shall miss him at SINDA but are heartened that he will still be working for and with the Indian Community at SICCI. We wish Barathan the very best in his journey forward.”
Mr Anbarasu Rajendran the current Deputy CEO of SINDA will be Acting CEO of SINDA, commencing 1 July 2018.
Mr Anbarasu is an Education Officer with the Ministry of Education, and currently on secondment to SINDA. He was in the Curriculum Planning and Development Division of MOE and had a previous secondment to SINDA as Education Division Director (2010-2012). Thereafter he was Vice-Principal of Teck Whye Secondary School and subsequently Centre Director of Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre (MOE).
