Part-time Tutoring Position – Teach Programme

Teach is a school-based tutorial programme endeavouring to improve the academic performance of students by closing their learning gaps and preparing them for daily lessons in the core subjects through intensive small-group coaching sessions.

Since its inception in 2001, the Teach Programme has been conducted in MOE schools island wide. This customised programme is conducted after-school hours on weekdays and on Saturdays within schools’ premises for students in Primary and Secondary levels.

The Teach Programme is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve academic success and the confidence to face challenges with resilience.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Teach students placed under their care the subject assigned to them by SINDA Education Division
  • Marking and monitoring of students’ attendance
  • Come prepared for each class and have familiarised themselves with the content
  • Strive to improve students’ confidence and stimulate their interest in the subject being taught
  • Identify learning gaps and bridge them, so that students are able to follow the lessons being taught in their respective schools
  • Strive to provide students with a learning environment which fosters the students’ ability and skills to work independently and learn as a group
  • Administer the SINDA Review Papers in accordance with the conditions and timelines as advised by SINDA HQ and/or SINDA Education Division
  • Strive to infuse ICT into lessons where possible
  • Ensure that students’ progress is assessed through the tools provided by SINDA
  • Attend training sessions conducted by SINDA
  • Any other duties as assigned by Teach department

 

Requirements

  • Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum 3 years of recent teaching/tutoring experience (Non-NIE Trained)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including building and sustaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at various levels
  • Experience in student related matters
  • Counselling and training in pastoral care is an added advantage
  • Available for face to face classes on weekday afternoons and/or Saturday mornings

 

Qualification & Certification:

NIE-trained candidates

  • Diploma in Education (NTU-NIE)
  • Specialist Diploma in Teaching and Learning for Allied Educators (NIE)

 

Non-NIE trained candidates

Qualifications (must be relevant to tutoring subjects)

  • General Degree (preferred)
  • Coaching/Facilitation, Skills/Guidance and Support Growth courses

 

Other Preferred Skills

  • Counselling
  • Training in special needs
  • Training in pastoral care

 

General Requirements

  • Experience in student related matters
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including building and sustaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at various levels
  • Able to utilise technology for online classes

 

Other Information

  • A contract for service is provided.  Renewal is subject to the Education Division’s discretion
