Dr Balaji Sadasivan Study Award

The ‘Dr.Balaji Sadasivan Study Award’ is a scheme in honour of the late Dr.Balaji Sadasivan, the past President of SINDA. The award is to recognize his valuable contributions to both SINDA and the Indian community.

 

It will be awarded to deserving Social Work Undergraduates / Postgraduates enabling them to pursue Social Work as a professional discipline of study. This scholarship award aims to assist students with course fees to pursue either Social Work or Counselling programmes at the following Universities listed below.

Value of Award

Support students with the study award of up to $5,000.

 

Bond

Bond periods will vary on the period of study.

Before Graduation/During Course of Study After Graduation
To complete 20 days of internships with SINDA* 1-year bond with SINDA* (Mandatory service period)

*SINDA reserves all rights to allow students to serve out the bond in another social agency at its sole discretion upon application.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for the scholarship award, applicants must be:

  • A Singapore Citizen of Indian origin
  • Be in the 2nd, 3rd or Honours year of study, with good academic results.
    (1st year students will be considered based on previous educational qualifications and grades)
  • Have a strong passion for continuing a career in the community and social service sector.
  • Be enrolled in one of the following courses recognised by the Singapore Association of Social Workers or the Singapore Association of Counselling.

Note:

  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the interview date and only successful candidates will be informed of the outcome by SINDA.
  • The committee's decision is final. SINDA does not enter into correspondence with regard to the reasons for the non-selection of applicants.
  • Candidates are required to volunteer their time with SINDA or our partnering organisation, the Singapore Indian Education Trust (SIET) upon completion and/or during the course.
Application Process
  • Please ensure you upload all the supporting documents to your online SINDA Scholarship application.
  • You are required to submit your application 2 months before the start of the semester or the start of the course.
  • Application Processing Time: Approximately 3 – 4 weeks.

 

Checklist - Supporting documents to be uploaded

  1. Letter of Offer / Contract Package from Institution / University
  2. Essay on why you have decided to pursue the selected course of study and the need for scholarship (Approximately 350 words)
    Include the following as well:
    1. Career aspirations / Future plans to work in a related field
    2. Work / Internship experience
    3. CCA / Volunteering achievements
  3. Copies of Relevant Certificates and Testimonials (e.g. GCE ‘N’ Level, GCE ‘O’ Level, Diploma, Co-curricular Activity records, Leadership/Volunteer experience etc.)
  4. Recent Photograph
  5. NRIC of Applicant and all Family Members staying in the same household (both sides of NRIC)
  6. Income Verification - Applicant and Family Members staying in the same household who are:
    1. Employed to produce both of the following:
      • Copy of CPF contribution history for the last 6 months AND
      • Copy of the latest 3 months' payslips
    2. Unemployed/Retired/Homemaker to produce:
      • Copy of CPF contribution history in the last 6 months
  7. Other supporting documents of applicant and family members (e.g.: Medical letter, death certificate or divorce certificate etc.)

Applications without all the supporting documents will not be processed.
